Please submit your application as early in the new year as possible. We will continue interviewing applicants and awarding $1900 tuition stipends until twenty applicants are chosen—first come, first considered. You are welcome to submit Part I of the following application on-line. Parts II, III, and IV. should be mailed to:

PART II. Please write and submit an informal essay describing how you teach writing or use writing as a means of learning in your classroom or subject. (Maximum of two pages, double-spaced)

PART III. Obtain an administrator letter of support which pledges to provide you with presentation time during the fall start up week to present a one hour informal description or your Summer Institute experience and send a hard copy to Susan Crothers, SOE, 900 State St., Salem, OR, 97301.

PART IV. Design a preliminary proposal for a fifty-minute teaching demonstration based on a successful lesson you taught in your classroom which involves a substantial writing component. (One page, double-spaced—we will fine tune this proposal during the first week.)

PART V. Finalists will be interviewed beginning mid-February. Questions will touch on your short essay, your writing interests and concerns, your philosophy of teaching writing, your proposed teaching presentation, and your desire to work in collaboration with others during the Summer Institute. Also we will answer your questions. First applicants receive priority by application postmark and interviews will continue until all twenty $1900 tuition stipends are made.
